2022 McCarthy Lecture with Dr. Beth Bailey

Wednesday, March 9, 2022 6pm to 7pm

The Dale Center for the Study of War & Society's Richard McCarthy Lecture Series will host Dr. Beth Bailey, a Foundation Distinguished Professor in the Department of History in the University of Kansas, who will present a lecture titled, "An Army Afire: The US Army and 'The Problem of Race' in the Vietnam Era."

Her current research project examines how the U.S. Army, as an institution, addressed calls for racial justice and tried to manage pervasive racial conflict during the broader unrest of the Vietnam War era. Over the past decade and a half, her research has been primarily in the field of military, war and society; she has also written extensively on the history of gender and sexuality in the modern United States.

This hybrid lecture will take place on the Hattiesburg campus with an option to livestream via Webex for those unable to attend in-person.
