Reading is declining, and ancient Chinese philosophy might hold the key.
Join Humanities Teacher Award recipient Dr. Timothy Gutmann for a public lecture exploring worldwide declines in reading comprehension in young people and interest in reading among adults, along with examples from Chinese history that show how reading shaped education and everyday life over the last 1,000 years.
Dr. Gutmann will share how imperial China’s Confucian scholarly traditions can influence personal flourishing, critical decision-making and a healthy society.
This event is free and open to the public.
