The annual CSGS Showcase is a day of engaging discussions and scholarship focused on the Gulf South. To kick off the showcase, Dr. Laura Mammina, assistant professor of History at USM, will present a lecture titled "Exploding the Myth of the Burning of Darien: The Crucial Role of Southern Women in the United States Civil War."
This year's event also features presentations by Julia Speed (2022 Harrison County Teacher of the Year, Southern Miss Alumna) and William Browning (M.A. candidate in History, 2024-2025 Baird Fellow), each offering unique insights into the region’s history, education and journalism.
