In commemoration of the 60th anniversary of Freedom Summer, this exhibition features a selection of images from nearly 2,000 photographs taken by Herbert Randall during the summer of 1964, when residents, state college students, and voting rights organizers from across the country came to Hattiesburg and worked together to secure voting rights for African Americans in Mississippi.

During the summer of 1964 Herbert Randall took 1,759 negatives, which he generously donated to the archives of The University of Southern Mississippi in 1998. Other examples of Randall’s work are in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, the Library of Congress, and other prominent American museums.
