This event is a film screening and discussion on the importance of voting. It features “Dying to Vote,” a film about civil rights activist Vernon Dahmer, who was murdered in 1968 for registering African Americans to vote. The film explores voter suppression in America, leading up to January 6, 2021, and includes interviews with Dahmer’s son, Dennis Dahmer, and Rep. Bennie Thompson, chairman of the January 6 Committee. Meet the speakers at 6:30 p.m., film screening at 7 p.m., followed by a Q&A with the filmmaker.
