About this Event
3144 Pearl Street, Hattiesburg, MS 39406
This documentary, which won an Academy Award, is narrated by Danny Glover and tells the untold story about the essential role of Black landowners and independent farmers in Mississippi in the 1960s in the fight against white supremacy – and for the right to vote.
David Shulman, director of Dirt and Deeds in Mississippi, will join Dr. Rebecca Tuuri, Southern Miss associate professor of history, for a conversation about the little-known story of African American property owners who risked their land while providing financial support to further the fight for civil rights.
A reception and special viewing of the exhibition, Impressions of the Struggle, will follow in McCain Library and Archives.
