Kick Glass with Franziska Trautmann

Wednesday, April 23, 2025 2:30pm to 3:30pm CDT

Curious how a college student turned glass waste into coastal restoration?

Come hear Franziska Trautmann, Founder and CEO of Glass Half Full (https://glasshalffull.co/), share her journey from Tulane University student to environmental entrepreneur.

GHF recycles glass into sand for coastal restoration, disaster relief, construction and more. Over 8 million more pounds of glass would be in landfills if not for Franziska and her team. Franziska’s innovative glass recycling initiative has gained national buzz – featured by The New York Times, PBS, Forbes and Good Morning America, among others.  She’s even taken the TED stage to talk about rethinking waste (https://www.ted.com/speakers/franziska_trautmann).

In her spare time, Franziska makes educational TikToks (@ecofran) ranging from recycling to climate change to wastewater treatment, and her page has garnered over 300,000 followers and millions of views! This is your chance to get inspired, ask questions and see how bold ideas can spark real-world change!

Presented by Piney Woods Conservation Group, Pinebelt Blueways and Kick Glass, in partnership with USM’s School of Biological, Environmental and Earth Sciences, Southern Miss Office of Sustainability, Mississippi Polymer Institute and Golden Eagle Conservation Society. This event is free and open to the public. Lunch provided by Southern Miss Office of Sustainability.
