Setting sail in the new year, the Symphony Orchestra continues with a tribute to the music of Italy and Spain. Italian flautist, Andrea Oliva, considered one of the finest flute artists in the world, joins the orchestra to perform Joaquin Rodrigo’s Fantasia para un gentilhombre. Sir James Galway proclaimed him to be “one of the best flutists of his generation – a shining star in the flute world.” The Orchestra will also perform de Falla’s Ritual Fire Dance and the exciting and pictorial work Pines of Rome, by Ottorino Respighi. This work depicts the Roman pine tree settings of the Villa Borghese Gardens, the catacombs on the Janiculum Hill, and along the Appian Way.
