Join comedian, writer, musician and host Rita Brent for the first Fall Media Mentor Series session, presented by the Roy Howard Community Journalism Center.

Many students begin their careers in local media without realizing those early experiences can open doors far beyond the newsroom. This session will explore how foundational skills in radio, storytelling and live performance can translate into entertainment, writing, comedy and national platforms. Drawing from a journey that began in Mississippi radio and evolved into award-winning comedy, music and television writing, this mentor will discuss how to pivot strategically, build a personal brand and take bold risks while staying rooted in authenticity. Participants will gain insight into how to grow beyond their first role, leverage transferable skills and create opportunities that align with their long-term vision.
