LAB 102
The global technological revolution has facilitated the rapid spread of (genuine) fake news and propaganda, providing an effective means for political leaders and bad actors to “master reality.” Vosoughi, et al. have shown that political false news travels faster, farther and is more widely spread than truth, or other forms of false news (2018). This contributes to “truth decay” and “trust decay,” generating the “liar’s dividend,” i.e., skepticism and a general nihilism about truth (Chesney & Citron, 2019). What can and should be done to combat this trend?
