Picture a Mississippi Scientist: Panel Discussion

Let’s change the way we think of science! Join host, Maranda Joiner, Brand Strategist, Author and Speaker, as we discuss the strive to change the traditional image of a “scientist” with a team of Mississippi institutions of higher learning. We will hear from the panelists about their Mississippi experience and how the future of science can look like all of us. Register to reserve your spot.

Keynote Address:

  • Dr. Davita Watkins, Associate Professor of Chemistry at the University of Mississippi
  • Dr. Glake Hill, Associate Professor of Chemistry, Physics & Atmospheric Sciences at Jackson State University
  • Dr. Sabine Heinhorst, Full Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry and Dean of the Honors College at The University of Southern Mississippi
  • Dr. Colleen Scott, Associate Professor of Chemistry at Mississippi State University

Closing Remarks:

  • Dr. Gordon Cannon, Vice President for Research at The University of Southern Mississippi

It is strongly encouraged to view the film, Picture a Scientist, prior to the event. A link to view the film will be sent after registration is completed. Participants may also attend a coordinated on-campus viewing of the film on Tuesday, October 26 from 3 to 5 p.m. at one of the below locations:

  • Polymer Science Auditorium on the Hattiesburg campus
  • West Academic Building, Room 200, on the Gulf Park campus
  • Caylor Auditorium at the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory
