This is a program of virtuosity, storytelling and the variety of human experience through soprano voice and piano. Depicting the beauty of rural Americana, Samuel Barber’s “Knoxville Summer of 1915” expresses the essence of peace and gratitude that we enjoy in the South. The program also includes Jake Heggie’s “At the Statue of Venus” where a soprano waits to meet a man she has never seen, expressing jumbled thoughts and emotions of hope, uncertainty and self-doubt.
