Trombone Day

The Annual Trombone Day includes group warm-ups, exhibits, guest artist performances/master classes, Southern Miss Trombone Choir/Select Octet, the Trombone Day Participant Choir and much more! 

Guests: Joseph Alessi (Principal Trombone, NY Phil), Jeremy Wilson (Prof. at Vanderbilt Univ / formerly of Vienna Phil), Nick Laufer (Toby Keith Band), Ricardo Molla (composer/trombonist), Karen Cubides (Karen Cubides Agency), Samantha Lane (SE Shires) and Greg Black (Greg Black Mouthpieces)

Event Schedule:

7:30 to 8:30 a.m. – Registration (Intermezzo Lobby)

8:30 to 9 a.m. – Welcome: Ben McIlwain and Karen Cubides (Marsh Auditorium)

9 to 9:50 a.m. – Jeremy Wilson, Body Mind Spirit Master Class and Q & A (Marsh Auditorium)

10 to 11:30 a.m. – Joseph Alessi, Masterclass (Marsh Auditorium)

11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. – Panel Discussion:  Alessi, Molla (virtual on Zoom), McIlwain, Miles, Wilson moderated by Cubides /  Q&A (Marsh Auditorium)

12:15 to 1 p.m. – Shires moment with Alessi  (Marsh Auditorium)

1 to 2:15 p.m. – Visit Exhibits/ Snacks/ Photo Op with artists (Intermezzo)

2:30 to 3:30 p.m. – Southern Miss Trombone Choir with guests Alessi, Laufer and Wilson  (Bennett Auditorium)

3:45 to 4:15 p.m. – Greg Black, talk (Marsh Auditorium)

4:15 to 4:45 p.m. – Commercial music class with Nick Laufer  (Marsh Auditorium)

4:45 to 5:30 p.m. – Panel with Samantha Lane - Shires, Greg Black, Laufer, Molla, moderated Karen - Careers in Music (Marsh Auditorium)

5:30 to 6:30 p.m. –  Visit exhibits 

7:30 p.m. to Finale Concert – Wilson and McIlwain perform Molla (Bennett)
