Wind Ensemble Concert

The University of Southern Mississippi School of Music proudly presents the Wind Ensemble in Concert with special guest The Boston Brass.

The University of Southern Mississippi Band Program had its inception in 1920 with the founding of the first aggregation of winds, mainly a brass ensemble for students who were training as teachers. The Wind Ensemble is proud to go back to its roots with special guests’ performance by the Boston Brass. For over 30 years Boston Brass has set out to establish a one-of-a-kind musical experience. From exiting classical arrangements to burning jazz standards and the best or original brass repertoire, Boston Brass treats audiences to a unique brand of entertainment that captivates all ages.

The Wind Ensemble is the premiere musical ensemble for music majors. The Wind Ensemble has joined consortiums and performed new compositions by Kevin Day, David Maslanka, and Alan Theisen while continuing to perform traditional band literature. This concert series will add to the USM consortium premieres with Jules Pegram, “L.A.tudes for Band”. The work is the composer’s travelogue of life in the endlessly exhilarating, remarkably iridescent City of Angels. The Wind Ensemble is under the current direction of Catherine Rand.
